Tips for this sale...
1.) Get there early! Don't be surprised if there is a crazy line but it will be worth it!
2.) Bring your credit cards and check your limits on them because if it declines or if there is a security verification on your card, Prada will NOT be allowed to swipe that same card in case you STILL have the funds! (And they will take your first born.)
3.) If you see something you like...GRAB IT! and DON'T put it down! once you release an item physically just to free your arm, it's fair game.
4.) Shop on a full stomach (but not too full, lest the bloat depress you and keep you from buying anything), so that you are focused and you don't get overwhelmed by the vast selection or the crowds.
5.) Wear comfy shoes and if you try clothes, make sure you're wearing the right undergarments because all sales are final!
GOOD LUCK AND WE’LL SEE YOU THERE!

Motorcycle Boots: Not Just for Hell’s Angels Anymore!
10.12.09I tend to shy away from anything that makes my size nine feet bigger than they are OR away from anything that my ultra-politically correct friend calls “dykey”, since I like to think I’m a delicate, feminine flower. Right. Well, even this trend convinced me to deflower, haha. When worn with the right silhouette (think sleek pants, slouchy top or streamlined wool blazer or jacket) motorcycle boots can look surprisingly fresh (note double entendre, hehe). I need to stop. Seriously.
Celebs (well, not PETA-supporting celebs, anyway) are favoring Jimmy Choo’s biker leather boots for the perfect mid-calf height, comfortable heel, and conservative use of buckles.

$1050 at Saks
A little-known Italian brand named Apepazza makes high quality leather creations such as their Pesarao Boot. This style is knee-high and would look great with a short floral dress –yes, even for fall, floral is ok when paired with tights and proper jackets– tights, and either a blazer or a cropped leather jacket.

$299 at shopgoldyn.com
For those of you who simply shudder at the thought of giving up your heels, you can still look rocker chic with Manolo Blahnik’s Studded-Strap Boot, found at both Bergdorf’s and Neiman Marcus. By the way, don’t EVER get one of their charge cards like, ehem, the NM one I have. You store all your credit card info on their site and can buy stuff in literally (or as Rachel Zoe says LITRALLY) three clicks!! Don’t do it, kids! Danger!

$1595 at neimanmarcus.com
These rock, not only because of the spiky heel, but because of the studded trim that wraps all the way around the shaft of the boot. All you need is a LBD and you’re good to go.

Review of Lindsay Lohan’s “Artistic” Advisor Efforts to Ungaro
10.5.09I really tried to give her a chance. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. I thought, “Hey, she dresses well most of the time, maybe she’ll do OK as Emanuel Ungaro’s artistic advisor.” I was wrong. Some of the dresses were just OK–I would probably wear 3-4 of the over forty outfits shown at Ungaro’s RWT Spring 2010 Collection. A couple of problems:
The over-use of the heart motif (hasn’t anyone heard of Moschino? They’re known for the cheesy use of hearts on anything from bathing suits to dresses to purses). Lilo pushes the envelope by introducing HEART-SHAPED PASTIES to be worn under blazers, you know, to dinner with your father or a business meeting with a client (to really SEAL the deal, haha, get it? SEAL? The pasties are sealed onto your boobs. OK–maybe it’s not that funny if I have to explain it).

Photo via wwd.com
Seriously? Let’s keep heart-shaped pasties where they belong–to be worn at two-person parties at random artists’ lofts on the LES after some substance abuse or at Terry Richardson auditions. (Just kidding, Mom!)
You know Herve Leger’s iconic bandage dress that all the starlets love to wear? Well, he designed it as a dress, not as a bandage:

Oh, dear. It makes me think–is it because zee French see that she’s an American who can breath new life (or cigarette smoke, as it may be the case) into this struggling design house? Is it the European version of a celebrity endorsement? For the rest of the slideshow, go to wwd.com. Just get your tissues ready.

New York Fashion Week- Two Weeks Late
9.28.09Yes, New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 was over two weeks ago and we went to some shows and parties and talked to some fashion people. The tents at Bryant Park were a complete dog and pony show, replete with posers and people who just seemed to be in the tents enjoying the free coffee from McCafe, not necessarily going to any shows. Anywhoo.
Why didn’t we post then, you ask? Well, I like to think it’s because we’re creative people, and creative people are non-linear (meaning, we were lazy and about to join AA, but that’s besides the point). We’re just non-linear. Below are a few photos that remind us of the blur that was Fashion Week:

The gorgeous exterior of the Christian Dior boutique on Fashion's Night Out

Pre-show madness at Nicole Miller

Contrasting fabrics and body consciousness at Nicole Miller

Some Fashion Week party we sneaked into one night Note: Kanye's Etch-a-Sketch haircut and Amber Rose's neo-alien look

These dudes show up every Fashion Week.
The guy on the right is a model. Really.

Derek Lam backstage
Sometimes, the programs have some great poems in them. Derek Lam’s was one of my favorites:
Ode to Summer: something I heard on the radio
Asbury Park, Rehoboth beach, P Town and Key West
Patriotic, optimistic, free for all.
A carnival
carnal and a little bit tawdry. Glitter dust.
Summer love. A summer fever, some bittersweet memories.
I wish you were here.

Carine Roitfeld and Stephen Gan at Derek Lam
By the way, when I asked Carine Roitfeld (editor-in-chief of French Vogue) for an interview she told me, “We are in a discussion, sorry.” Just so everyone knows, this woman does not know (nor does she care to know) how to use a computer! Chew on that delicious fact for a second…

Models striding by in city florals at Donna Karan
There was a seating snafu at the Donna Karan show and they almost didn’t let me in. After much pleading and testimony that I was indeed a legit journalist, they let me in. I think in interviews for fashion PR girls, they do a physical examination on the spot to make sure you’re heartless. (Bitter, party of one, your seat is ready!)

Requisite Asian fashion fans with Donna Karan
By the way, there was this Philipino (Filipino? Who knows?) cross-dresser–dressed in full regalia like a lady who lunches with pearls and a pillbox hat–who was SOOOO EXCITED to see Donna Karan. In. Person. that she (he?) kept elbowing me out of the way to get as close as possible to Donna Karan. In. Person. So after the seating snafu and cross-dresser incident, I went to my therapist straight away after the Donna Karan show, and if you have to go to yours after reading this post, I’m truly sorry.

Fab and Frugal: Swatch Astonishs Supermodel Aggie
9.28.09A newly-brunette Agyness Deyn is apparently taken by Swatch Watches. These delightful strips of plastic not only tell time, but come in loads of colors.

Chameleon Aggie

Do models know how to tell time? On a Swatch, they do.
During Fashion Week, Deyn rocked Swatch’s Color the Sky model. For only $55, you can pretty much buy one for every day of the week.

This color is EVERYWHERE!!
9.25.09
So I first spotted this gray polish color at Urban when I was convincing my friend to buy some amazing shoes. (I later convinced her to buy this shade to compliment the shoes) Seems that it’s popping up everywhere these days! Is it me or is Dashing Diva kind of stepping up their game and bringing on some edgy colors?! I think with a (well cut!!) boyfriend blazer and a bottle of this you are good to go for fall. -
