Dipping My Toes in the Hipster Pond
7.19.09
80%20 urbanoutfitters.com
Sometimes even I suffer from a bit of shoppers remorse, so I bought these yesterday at Urban Outfitters for $35 and I’m questioning their appeal. They were originally $98, but yesterday all UO sale items were an extra 50% off, which rocked. Get ye down to Urban today and check it out. The good news is most hipsters are at the pool party in Williamsburg right now, so you should have the sale section mostly to yourself.

Anna Sui, Target and Gossip Girl…OH MY!
6.30.09So as many of you already know Anna Sui’s collection for Target debuts this September, and she says her inspiration for the collection is the glorious Gossip Girl series. We chose a few of our favorite looks to share with you. As is the case on the show, the Vanessa inspired looks fall flat. Ugh! Vanessa is my least favorite character, she annoys the shit out of me. Anyway on with the show…

The Vanessa Inspired Frocks
If I inspired this level of fuggery, I would excuse myself from the show immediately. Hint, hint, V. The Jenny collection is not as bad, but I preferred Jenny before she went all rock and roll on us.

Inspired by Little J
The dress on the left is AWFUL, but I think it’s something that Jenny would actually wear. Luckily the black dress redeems the Jenny collection. I long for the days when Jenny was trying to fit in with the queen bees and hence dressing better. The last time I saw Taylor Momsen was at the Anna Sui show in Feb, and in real life she dresses just like rocker Jenny, the red lipstick and all and homegirl is SKINNY. Now let’s discuss the girls on the show that actually know how to dress: Serena and my favorite–Blair!!

Blue Dress=Blair Silver Dress=Serena
I love, love, love the blue dress and the silver one looks as though it may look cheap in person, but I will have to wait until September to know for sure. My favorite dress is the first one in the next photo and ,of course, it’s a Blair.
Ignore the hideous last three outfits, the white one is the only one you have to worry about. Isn’t it lovely? Oh, Blair, we can always count on you. Not to spoil a good here, but the journalistic wizards known as Nylon magazine have another idea about where Ms. Sui may have pulled her inspiration from: previous collections dating back before Gossip Girl was even on the air! -

Roberto Cavalli Sample Sale
6.23.09So we headed over to the Roberto Cavalli sample sale today and took a few pics to show you what they have:

We're not quite sure what to make of these hats.....
We tried these on and couldn’t determine if we looked fierce or ridic. I’m leaning towards ridic. The shoe department held better prospects for us.

The shoes cost about $230 with the discount

Not all the shoes were gems...just most
Looking for a a tacky sequin bag? You’ve come to the right place. Hey, there’s a reason this label is popular with Euro-trash.

And the crowning jewel of the sale is this a-m-a-z-i-n-g skirt.

Whoop there it is!
Here’s the info my little lambs:

Catherine Malandrino sample sale- a paragon!
6.19.09
Hors d'oeuvres, anyone?
We’re crazy for sample sales this week! This sale was the antithesis of the typical sample sale–organized, calm and chock-full of sizes! I swear, there must have been a string quartet playing SOMEWHERE on the premises. Sale consisted mainly of dresses–which you need this time of year–and marked down to 80- 90% off–which you need all recession-long!

Walter Sample Sale R-O-C-K-E-D!!
6.17.09
$80 sequin flapper dress
This sample sale had everything others lack. It was clean, organized, staffed with friendly chicks that helped me out with sizes and even unzipped me when I was caught in a too small dress for a moment. (Hey, it happens.) It felt more like a personal shopping experience, then the everybody-for-themselves mentality I’ve grown accustomed to. I didn’t end up buying this dress, but I may go back tomorrow:)

$30 Walter top
Hmmm let’s think about this, you could get a $30 top from the Gap or a freakin’ designer top from Walter. Tough call…

Racks and racks of flouncy florals
Great brand, and great sale. If you normally avoid sample sales due to their chaotic nature, Walter is for you. The staff is lovely and the space is completely ORGANIZED, which is a rarity at these things. Tomorrow is the last day and I will be back! Check it out for yourself horn dogs: 265 West 37th St. between 7th and 8th Ave. 5th Floor. 212-391-9400 10am-5pm

Jimmy Choo to design line for H&M
6.17.09
Jimmy Choo shoe (not from the upcoming collection)
I know this is too much excitement for this early in the morning, but the rumors are flying that the Jimmy Choo collection for H&M will debut this fall. I am excited but a little nervous, I hope Jimmy Choo uses better materials then the shit they call shoes and sell currently at H&M. The shoes at H&M are what I call “Barbie Shoes” they are stiff, uncomfortable, and they are a sure fire way to get a heinous blister. Jimmy please be kind to our feet! On the other hand those shoes better not cost $300 either. I’m so easy to please;)

Jumpsuit Jamboree
6.16.09Ahhh, jumpsuits. They come in all shapes and sizes:

Beyonce
I’m totally on board with this jumpsuit, cause it’s formfitting enough to not add any extra poundage, but still loose enough be comfortable. This evens Beyonce out, and takes her from “bootylicious” to proportioned. Well done B.

Leona Lewis
While gofugyourself.com had a field day with this particular jumsuit, it’s bouncyness delights me. This style is for the slimmer gals though. (read: if you are bottom heavy you need not apply. Yes, we are talking to you Beyonce.)
But not all jumpsuits are created equal, as evidenced by the Zimmerman version above. Unless you are Chloe Sevigny (And if you are I love you!! And want to be best friends with you!! And can’t believe you are reading my blog!!) step away form this jumpsuit. These are murky jumpsuit waters and should only be navigated by the most experienced among us.
My $30 no-name jumpsuit
So the Tory Burch sample sale did not work out for me, but upon leaving my eagle-eyed friend Sara spotted a sample sale sandwich board promising all kinds of high end designer duds at discount prices. So we headed in the building and followed the signs and took the elevator to the basement. (The night before I saw the movie Taken with Liam Neeson and as the elevator descended I thought this could be a ploy to get girls down in the basement of a random building and then sell them into the sex trade. So naturally I shoved Sara out the elevator door first, buying myself a few key moments in case I needed to call Liam. I digress.) What we found were discounted designer clothes (think Prada, Marc Jacobs, Armani ect.) on one side and no-name stuff we could actually afford on the other side. This jumpsuit is of the latter category, and in all honesty doesn’t even look that great on me, but I want to be the kind of fierce bitch that has a semi-fabulous fake satin jumpsuit hanging in her closet. So sue me.

Tory Burch Sample Sale
6.11.09
Tory Burch
Heading to the Tory Burch sample sale in the morning, and trying to manifest deeply slashed prices and plenty of items in my size. Sample sales are the one time it sucks wearing a 7.5 shoe since everyone and their great-grandmothers dog wears that size. Ugh. So the rumor is prices have been slashed again due to lagging sales (woo-hoo!). A little birdie told me all shoes (both flats and wedges) are now $75 and polos are 2 for $70. If anyone has been, holla and let us the the deal! If you wanna check it out for yourself: 261West 36th St. between 7th and 8th Ave. 2nd Floor. 10am-6pm

Thoughts?!
