Intermix Sample Sale Report: $19 Leather Pants?
8.28.09My amazing blog partner hit up TWO major sample sales today: Intermix and Barney’s. While Barney’s didn’t retain any of its first day shitshow qualities, it still disappointed with no scores in site (mind you, they add more merch. near the end of the sale, so no need to stand in line).
Intermix decided to blow minds with NINETEEN DOLLAR LEATHER PANTS AND NINETEEN DOLLAR BOOTS AND SHOES! Did I mention that they were NINETEEN dollars? My blog partner graced me with two pairs of leather pants–one from Golde and one from Elizabeth and James, the Olsen twins line. (Because I need TWO pair of leather pants for work.
) And, oh yeah, $300 Michael Kors knee-high leather wedge boots. Wow. We don’t have photos of the leather pants but we sure do have photos of happy, happy shoes!
Hi, will you adopt us?

Shiny, happy and $19!

FMMH Hearts Ronson and Shoshanna
8.26.09
Charlotte Ronson and Shoshanna Gruss
Last night, at Housing Works’ Editor’s Choice charity shopping event hosted by Allure’s Fashion Director Michael Carl, we had the pleasure of chatting with Charlotte Ronson and Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss about their swimsuit collaboration and a certain NY Times columnist’s opinions about JC Penney. They were both super cool even though we were quite jealous that Shoshanna was sporting the Alexander McQueen clutch of our dreams! (And of our bank accounts nightmares.)
FMMH: So, I wanted to ask you a few questions…
Shoshanna: (looks at our business card and seems a bit wary of our name. Maybe thinks questions will be sexual in nature?)
FMMH: I swear they are all PG-13!
Shoshanna: (laughing) Alright. Alright.
FMMH: I wanted to ask you about your bathing suit line. You both have done bathing suits on your own and now you have Made With Love together…
Shoshanna: Yeah it’s something we kinda kicked around and talked about and it kind of came together quickly…and we started a line together. There is a lot of crossover with our customers too.
FMMH: Is this a one-time collaboration or are you going to continue with this line?
Shoshanna: We just kind of went with it to see how it would go. We had a little more time to plan it and do it the right way.
Charlotte: We finished our second collection!
FMMH: (to Charlotte) Is it going to be sold in your boutique or it a separate project to be sold somewhere else?
Charlotte/Shoshanna: Yeah! Also at Shopbop, Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and a lot of small boutiques. A lot of the same places we sell our collections. Which is nice because we get to diversify a little bit.
FMMH: (To Charlotte) So you interned at Rolling Stone, Harper’s Bazaar and Cynthia Rowley. Which was your favorite experience?
Charlotte: Rolling Stone was the first, so I was young and getting coffee was fun. I thought it was a real grown-up job. I mean they all were fun. I worked at Harper’s Bazaar and that’s where I realized I want to get into the design aspect. Then I went to Cynthia Rowley where I was able to get experience and be a little more hands on.
FMMH: So what do you think about the Cintra Wilson debacle? About what she wrote for the NY Times about JC Penney?
Shoshanna: What? I read the NY Times everyday and I haven’t heard about this. What was it?
FMMH: It’s all over The Cut, basically she wrote an article for the NY Times that was very negative about JC Penney and there has been an uproar all over the country of women writing in. She said the mannequins were obese.
Charlotte: When it comes to sizing. I know I fit. Right now I am wearing an I Heart Ronson dress from JC Penney and it’s a small. (Note: Charlotte is very small, so this seems accurate)
FMMH: We just bought a dress of yours and it fits perfectly, so we are happy!!

Necklaces Pop Up Where We Least Expect Them!!
8.24.09If you have a death wish (or a ripped earlobe wish) I recommend this Dechel rendition:

Photo: 80spurple.com
For $53 you can both look like a fool and score another visit with your hot plastic surgeon. (I say this because my friend ripped her lobes and had them reconstructed by a ridiculously hot doc. You know who you are.) And next on our list we have some fun tops from Haute Hippie (btw nearly everything they design makes us horny!) :

If you were reading one of those”recession” blogs right now, we might say something like “And you can take the necklace OFF the shirt, and wear it with a completely different outfit!” But you’re not, so we won’t.

From the woman who brought you goop, comes a small capsule collection of jersey and cotton separates that take you from lounging around to taking the town by storm (with the right accessories of course). Although I think the gray one-piece would even make Miranda Kerr look like she could stand to lose a few, if you stick to Gwen’s macrobiotic diet you my be able to pull it off.
You can purchase the whole collection starting Monday August 24th on matchesfashion.com. -

Christian Siriano for VS Review
8.18.09So I headed over to Victoria’s Secret today to see what all the fuss was about. I could barely find the collection because it was so small and didn’t even have its own counter. Honestly VS could have done a much better job promoting it. They should have put it on a separate counter front and center and had a make-up artist there to answer questions/tell you about the collection. I tested everything out and here’s what I think: The price is right, but the collection gets an “eh”. First off, what the hell does Siriano know about beauty? Isn’t he a clothing designer? Well let’s see…

$16 victoriassecret.com
You could do better. There is only one color palette for the bronzer, and this one did not work for me. $16 is a bit steep the quality seemed drug-store to me.

$12 victoriassecret.com
I was super excited when I saw this sparkly black, but the pigment is just not there. It comes out super light on your skin. I applied three layers of color and could still not recreate the color in the pot. Boo.

The lipgloss is by far your best bet. The colors come out exactly the same shade as they are in the tube, they are not sheer at all. Great pigment! Sublime and Chic the best colors. Kudos on the Egyptian inspired studded packaging, you can NEVER have enough studs.

$149.00 Jeffery Campbell lulus.com
Just discovered this site today and went through it to pick out the creme de la creme for you. In all honestly a great majority of the clothes on the site seem like they would look cheap in person, but the accessories rock! Stay away form the no name shoes (esp. if you are a NYer). Have fun and let us know if you find anything good on the site. (We know you will!)

On Wednesday, August 26th, I plan on being a bit under the weather and not being able to make it to work, or perhaps I will have a doctor’s appointment scheduled from 1-6pm (a really thorough appointment). I haven’t decided on my excuse yet, but all I know is that I will be at the Metropolitan Pavilion duking it out with the most vicious breed of sample sale stalker out there: “the footwear fiends”. Come meet our elbows Wed. Aug 26th at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th St, at Sixth Ave.

Fab Shoe Clearance Sale (and Free 2-Day Shipping) ALERT!
8.13.09One of our FAVORITE online shoe store and one of Zappos‘ biggest competitors, Endless Shoes is having an orgasmic clearance sale, with FREE two-day shipping to boot (hehe, punny)!
We’ve done the job of perusing the sale for you and here are our picks for late summer/early fall.
These casual Fly London boots are pretty, well, fly, with an asymmetrical zipper and rubber sole:

Fly London Tess Boot
For all sorts of sleek sexiness, try this grey high-heeled boot from Dolce Vita (one of our favorite funky brands):

Dolce Vita Jake Boot
One of the biggest trends for fall is the feminine oxford, like this one from Steve Madden. It’s not on sale (still cheap), but we love how the name of it has TWO xxs! Super cute!

Steve Madden Tuxxedo Oxford
A word of caution, though. If you have anything larger than a 7.5 foot, an oxford will make your feet look like surfboards (not a good look).
For late nights, try these Calvin Klein stacked heels. When the weather gets colder, you can wear them with tights OR you can still wear them to work with trousers and still look profesh:
