Cool as Hell Vintage Wares on Ebay from Bustown Modern
1.12.10Sup, kids! I discovered Bustown Modern, a badass vintage seller on eBay that, according to their “About Us” section,
. . . specializes in 20th century furnishings + fashion. From atomic 50s and Scandinavian modern to couture party dresses and 80s glam, we hand-select every piece we sell for design, quality and condition. Based in Columbus, Ohio, we offer weekly eBay auctions and an eBay store, a full online store and an entire room at Eclectiques Antique Mall in Columbus.
So, you can either haul ass to Ohio or check out their eBay store. Here are some of my favorites currently being sold:
With auctions for some of these items starting as low as $14.99, you have no excuse not to rock vintage this spring!

Chanel Ink
1.9.10It’s hard to imagine what Coco Chanel’s reaction would be to these tattoos featured in Chanel’s 2010 collection–they seem to mix the brand’s signature elegance with just a touch of biker edge. They look amazing on the models, but I think this is a look I’ll be avoiding for now. The price is right though; you can purchase a set of 55 tats for $78, come March. For a peek at the rest of Uncle Karl’s crazy accessories check out refinery29.

Parisian Style Hunting
1.5.10Over the holidays, I took my maiden voyage to Paris, prepped to be blown away by the notoriously fashionable French. Unfortunately, the weather was much too cold, and everyone was bundled up beyond recognition so I couldn’t even get a glimpse at their outfits. The only real “style” I witnessed was in boutique windows, and due to the current exchange rate, all I have are these pictures and the memories. (Seriously, everything was SO expensive that I was relieved to get back to the much more reasonable prices in NYC!) Check out the kicks below, and let us know which ones do it for you in the comment section.

Rodarte for Target
12.19.09These Target lines get me every time! When Alexander McQueen launched at Target, I ran as fast as I could to the NYC pop-up shop to buy up everything in sight, and it wasn’t until I got home that I realized I payed $200 for some very ugly clothes that looked like they were from a national discount chain as opposed to an elite British designer. Which brings us to Rodarte for Target, which I am sure I will fall prey to come December 20th. (Learning the hard way is my specialty.) Well, I’ll let you be the judge, but I’ll give you bad news first:

Sequin Rib Cage Dress in black $49.99

Swiss Dot Dress in blue $39.99
So, these are the worst of the lot in my opinion. I can’t imagine how the rig cage dress is going to translate, in the cheap material these designer collaborations always use. I’m loving the layered nude “thights“ though. ($9.99!)

Lace-Print Dress in tan: $34.99

Asymmetrical Cardigan in gray: $44.99
I LOVE delicate granny cardigans and these are amazing renditions! The asymmetrical version is perfect for pairing with jeans, tights, and these American Apparel ballet dresses I have been really into lately. A Target Do and a Target Disaster
12.16.09Most people go to Target to pick up Tom’s of Maine Toothpaste, Avalon Organics Vitamin C Cleansing Gel and Pup-eronis. (Well, I do. And, the Pup-eronis are for my dog, not me, but I digress–this is a fashion blog, not a “Random Things I Picked up at Target” blog.) However, Target’s amazing diffusion lines (like Rodarte’s, debuting Dec. 20th) and soon Zac Posen’s line (debuting nationwide April 25th–eons away!) draw the fashionable (i.e., moi) to check out what other sartorial wares they hawk at any given time.
Target’s Converse One Star line consistently surprises by coming up with high quality basics that make you feel like the coolest chick in school. I found a sweet heather lavender tissue-thin oversized tee that is on par with a James Perse or Adam tee. (Note: buy in XL for drapey feel.) I plan on wearing it with liquid leggings, a cropped blazer and Jeffrey Campbell multi-strap platforms.

Converse One Star Slit Pocket Tee
Compare to the James Perse tee below. Not a huge difference in quality or style, but a quite a bit in price.

James Perse Tee
Target is a must for any fashionista (self-styled or otherwise) who implements the high-low strategy in her wardrobe. (And by high-low, I mean mixing designer and discount, not Adderall and Xanax, hehe.)
On a more somber note, I did see a monstrosity at Target that seared my eyeballs and that no sane woman would even entertain bringing into her home, let alone wearing. The visual merchandisers at Target somehow decided to proudly display the following Nick and Nora fuzzy-wuzzy onesie FOR GROWN WOMEN.

Nick and Nora
Really?! Would you like to guarantee a sexless future? Then please wear these. I think I’ll stick to my semi-sheer Converse tee.

Vintage Holiday Dresses at Market Publique!
12.12.09What’s Market Publique you ask? An eBay of sorts for vintage fashion and if you haven’t already gotten your holiday dress, hold off from buying one of the designer diffusion line dresses from H&M or Target or Uniqlo that everyone else will be wearing and get a one-of-a-kind vintage dress from Market Publique. Speaking of wearing the same dress as everyone else, one year, I bought a Viktor & Rolf pale pink pouffy party dress from H&M, and I saw no fewer than THREE girls wearing it the same night I wore it! Really?!
Anyway, check out Market Publique, which was started by three Brooklyn babes. What up, Brooklyn!!! (I feel like Chris Rock after typing that.)

Be the life of the party in these festive frocks.

With all the holiday and New Year’s parties, everyone needs a dress to shine in. Ensure you’ll be the only one wearing that dress to your next party by picking a vintage one – after all, no one wants to end up in one of those who-wore-it-best scenarios!• Classic Sequin Cocktail Dress, from Cookies and Creme, $52
• Black Sequin Cutout Mini Dress, from Tialey Vintage, $20
• Christian Dior Mesh Sleeve Mini Dress, from Cure Thrift Shop, $175
Plus more styles available!

Sexy Sunday at Peachfrog with Deep Designer Discounts AND The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
11.11.09While wandering around Williamsburg, we discovered Peachfrog–a store that’s a cross between a sample sale and a discount store ala Nordstrom Rack, but cheaper! Prices like $3 for long-sleeve thermal tees and $12 for premium denim slapped us in the faces and boggled our already easily-boggable brains. Not only did they have clothes for men and women, but there were high-end housewares galore, and not the cheapy stuff, either. Apparently, the owner is a long-time liquidator and gets steals and deals from department stores like Saks and Neiman Marcus.
What does that mean for you (and more importantly, us)? Well, for one of us, it meant a boutique-quality distressed leather bag for only $75 and for the other, it meant a Greta Garbo felt hat with requisite feather for only $15! Peachfrog also slings bath and body products, so if you’re in need of some French bubble bath (and seriously, who isn’t?) or a new candle to replace your Diptique one, seriously, check it out!
