Too Young or Too Cute?: Fendi Kids Fashion Show F/W 2011-12Posted on January 29th, 2011 No comments
Fendi launched their first children’s collection last week at Pitti Bimbo — Italy’s fashion week for kids — with an adult-sized runway show. Elle reports that head of accessories, Silvia Venturini Fendi, describes the collection as:
Easy chic style and a sprinkling of irony for the ‘little’ FENDI ones,” because children are always looking to incorporate some irony into their wardrobes. As for the babies: The baby girls’ collection plays with neutral shades of cream and of traditional pepper-and-salt nuances revisited with big buttons, little bows and monogram fabric inserts in the traditional mahogany colour, which distinguishes the Fendi maison.
Are they, though, looking to incorporate irony into their wardrobes? We thought children just wanted to either wear the same outfit five days in a row or wear weather or situation inappropriate outfits that exasperated their parents. Maybe it’s the parents’ looking at their children as both physical and sartorial extensions of themselves that’s resulting in children’s clothes’ increase in importance. Either way, the show is really cute and jealousy-inducing for those adults (ehem, us) that can’t afford the adult version of said clothes.
