How Novel: Wearing The Classics On Your Chest
3.31.10For those of you who opted for Cliffs Notes over reading the classics in literature class, yet still feel guilty about it, you can offer reparation to the literature gods by donning one of these fancypants t-shirts from Out of Print Clothing. Each one features a book cover, distressed cotton and literati cool. I’m not sure if the authors are turning or smiling in their graves at their work being turned into fashion, but hey, at least your high school English teacher would be proud.
Out of Print offers other classics covers t-shirts for men and women such as Fahrenheit 451, Atlas Shrugged, On the Road and more! They also donate proceeds from each t-shirt sold to Books for Africa. I don’t know about you, but the lit nerd in me finds these shirts HOT!

The Little White Dress Kicking The Little Black Dress’s Ass!
3.30.10I’m all about white dresses and not just for weddings, either. You can at least PRETEND you’re angelic by wearing white. Speaking of white, one of my friends used to wear white and swore up and down that it attracted men to her like bees to honey. Now, she’s married with an adorable baby and attributes it to wearing white. Hey, whatever works! Downing vodka tonics, sticking to dark-lit places and winking incessantly generally works for me (until the guy thinks I have a weird tic and backs away slowly). Back to the white dresses, I found a lot of cute ones, and at different price points.
Things to consider when buying a white dress: Make sure it’s lined or the material is sturdy enough not to be see-through. Wear NUDE underwear, not white. White shows. Nude doesn’t. If you’re shorter than 5′3” if you wear anything with too much eyelet or too many ruffles, you’ll look like a little girl. Stick to clean lines and few details.
This is a cute, feminine dress from Ruby Rox with a sweetheart necklace and swirling textured pattern. Pair it with a cardigan from last season for cooler nights. Dress it down during the day with ballet flats or dress it up at night with nude or metallic heels. At $44 from Nordstrom, you can’t really go wrong.
Alexander Wang’s T by Alexander Wang line breathes new life into basics at a lower price point. His $92 t-shirt dress exemplifies California cool (whatever that is). Wear with gladiator sandals or geometric wedge sandals.
This deconstructed, asymmetrical dress from Calvin Klein Collection features a single puff sleeve, soft structure and nude lining, so you can go commando if you so fancy. At $1995, it’s a bit hefty, but it’s also straight from the runway.

In Case You Want To, Ehem, “Lighten” Your Privates
3.26.10So, I’ve been walking around unawares that women around the world (meaning mostly South Beach) are feeling an intense need to lighten their nether regions. There’s an actual product out there called South Beach Lightening Gel for Sensitive Areas. This gel lightens “embarrassingly dark” anal and genital areas, underarms, nipples (huh?) and other skin discolorations. Unless you’re one of Jesse James’ ex-wives and starring in the next porno blockbuster, I don’t see the need to bleach down south. Do you?

Geometry Rules! Amazing Architectural Shoes
3.24.10This is one of the few cases where I enjoy geometry–in the cutouts on these amazing architectural beauties! Jeffrey Campbell has been one of my favorites for a while and he keeps churning out fabulous shoes, like these Mary Rocks (and she sure does!) platform wedges:
Another brand that I’d never heard of, Faryl Robin, dropped a sartorial bomb on me with these Madison platforms with a wrapped wedge heel.
Both can be gotten at Need Supply.

WANT:Tulle’s V-Cut Skirt
3.24.10This adorable breezy skirt from Tulle has all of the elements of spring-a speckled mini-print that reminds me of sprinkles on a cupcake, a high waist and an unexpected v-cut detail at the waist. Pair with a wifebeater or tube top and a chunky necklace and you’re good to go!

Issey Miyake’s VUE Watch Doesn’t Really Tell Time
3.23.10Check out this cool new conceptual–meaning not really super functional, since it only shows the hour–VUE watch, designed for fashion’s Issey Miyake by Yves Behar’s fuseproject design studio.
Clean lines and numbers that blur as it goes from one hour to the next, it serves to remind us that time is an artificial construct (which is what I suggest telling your boss when you breeze in 20 minutes late).

Your Pores NEED This Product
3.23.10After a night of drinking champagne and eating cheese at my friend’s high rise condo, one of the other guests whipped out a product that was like kryptonite to my pores. (This is what happens when my friends and I party. We discuss skin care.)
Dr. Brandt Pores No More pore refiner looked innocuous enough. A lightweight tinted lotion, I thought it would just sit on my skin, but no. It instantly mattified my skin and I was able to put it on top of my makeup! My pores were barely discernable and it felt like I had just airbrushed my skin!
So, go. Get it before the weather gets so warm your foundation and concealer run off your face due to your oil slick of a T-zone. It runs $45, which isn’t cheap, but you only need a little bit. At Sephora.

Polka Dots Are The New Stripes!
3.18.10Sorry for the lack of posts lately, everyone! It’s been super busy and I just woke up from St. Patrick’s Day revelry (just kidding, sort of).
It’s pretty much agreed that stripes (prison stripes and otherwise) are cool and add a hipster flair to any outfit, even if you’re an uptown princess with a trust fund rather than a downtown cool cat who works three jobs to pay for half your rent in your Lower East Side former tenement apartment.
However, anything–no matter how hip–gets old and something new takes its place. In this case, sweet polka dots of all sizes pep up your spring. Check out some of our favorites!
Derek Lam showed some great sophisticated polka dot looks in his Spring 2010 collection.
Marni’s whimsical mismatching patterns included stripes, floral and polka dots for Spring 2010.
Marc Jacobs (for his Marc by Marc Jacobs line) didn’t disappoint with his expected brights and patterns for Spring 2010, including bold and bright graphic prints, polka dots and 40s silhouettes.
Nanette Lepore’s version is tres cute!
