In my quest for a sleeveless jean jacket that doesn’t look like a reject from Debbie (excuse me, DEBORAH) Gibson’s 80s closet, I went all over town (well, all the way from Soho to  34th St.) to find a sleeveless topper for my summer dresses and tank tops. You know, to go from daytime temps of 80 degrees to nighttime temps of 65 degrees comfortably and in the manner of loping British actresses/models.

Unfortunately, I didn’t feel like paying over $200 for a jean jacket that felt like sweat pants. Strange, huh? Anyhoo, back to our trusty Forever 21. Seriously, I try to make it my last resort, but they’re so damn good at churning out designer knock-offs (as evidenced by multiple lawsuits brought against them by Anna Sui, DVF and Gwen Stefani in years past–oopsies!).

Did I score again? YES! Of course, my fellow fashionistas scooped up the entire sleeveless jean jacket stock from all the Forever 21s in NYC (this shit never happens in Ohio), so I had to order online. This is what it looks like:

I have a very good feeling that this will contrast the femininity of my summer dresses extremely well OR look great with a longer top and leggings. Another fashion fix, another day in the life of a fashion-obsessed blogger. Well, until the next obsession!

In honor of the amazing Roger Federer (I just call him “Rog”) and his win at Wimbledon against Andy Roddick, we’d like to discuss Roger’s signature fashion item, the terry headband. I honestly think that Roddick’s fashion choice at Wimbledon played a part in his loss, but, hey, that’s just me. Roddick’s backwards “bro” cap did nothing to improve his chances of winning, while Rog’s headband–stylish AND practical–helped give him the athletic and style edge he needed.

Now, who looks like a winner? Fab jacket with gold accents or boring polo?

At the post-match ceremony, Andy could’ve stepped it up, but no. He let Rog outshine him AGAIN in a white zip up jacket with gold accents. Could Rog be heading straight to P. Diddy’s yacht in St. Tropez? In that fabulous initial jacket, HELL, YES!

Now that you’re sufficiently convinced on the necessity of headband, you can run your asses over to American Apparel and get yours, too! If you really want to go crazy, consider adding the matching terry wristband, but don’t blame us if people start chasing you down the street to beat you with tennis rackets to steal them the way Nike Air Jordans are stolen in the ghetto.

Last night we hit up the grand opening fundraiser and silent art auction at the Arsenal–a unique space that mixes fashion, art, photography and events under one (fashionable) roof. We ignored hipster girls dancing in really bad camel-toe inducing high-waisted acid wash jean shorts and (tried) to ignore the absinthe shots. Though we hovered dangerously close, we were disciplined enough to stick with the PBR. Moving on.

Not only serving as headquarters for acclaimed Brooklyn fashion line Brooklyn Royalty, the Arsenal fills a needed niche in good ole Billyburg. Explains Bob Bland, the multi-talented designer of Brooklyn Royalty:

I created the Arsenal because I wanted to have a place where fashion professionals, design professionals, photographers, where all the independent creative individuals in Williamsburg can come and have a space where they can affordably create work. Because, especially during the recession, it’s been hard for everyone, including my brand, Brooklyn Royalty, to just get by at all. So when I was thinking of ways to help my brand succeed, it made sense to do something like this, where everybody can work together and succeed and survive in the recession. It’s not just for fashion anymore.

I’ve been producing fashion shows and other events for a very long time besides just designing Brooklyn Royalty and other brands. I definitely know how hard it is to find an affordable event space in New York and I know I’m beating everyone’s price right now because I can and because I want to.  I also offer event planning services, as well. I know everyone you need to know to have a cheaply-run event, but beautiful. If you want an event that looks like it cost ten times what you paid for it, that’s something I can do for you.

So, after several PBRs, breaking the balcony “only six people on balcony at a time!” rules, listening to the DJ play Phil Collins, we said sayonara to the beautiful art-filled space and knew we would be there again someday soon.
